A few years back, Princetel supported the Desert WAVE team with a FORJ mounted in a testing cable reel. The team used this to work through the programming development stages during the build process of their ROVs.

Si Se Puede Foundation’s Women’s Underwater Robotics Team Wins International Competition!

Desert WAVE, composed of primarily ethnic minority women, outperforms all other teams at the 27th International RoboSub Competition!

Dateline: Irvine, California, August, 11, 2024 – Desert WAVE (Women in Autonomous Vehicle Engineering), a collegiate robotics team based out of the Si Se Puede Foundation STEM Center, recently competed in the 27th International Robosub Competition facing off against 41 other teams from 8 countries. Composed of current ASU students as well as those who have recently graduated, the team dominated the field placing first overall during the finals, to our knowledge becoming the first all-women’s robotics team to win a world championship! They outperformed teams like Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, Indian Institutes of Technology, and the l’École de Technologies Supérieur. Desert WAVE was one of the few teams to enter two robots to work in tandem; Dragon and Baby Dragon. They earned $6000 for their efforts and are already planning for next year’s event!

The RoboSub 2024 event in Irvine, California, featured 41 teams from seven countries. Notable winners included the Si Se Puede Foundation (USA), which took first place in the Autonomy Challenge, earning $6,000. Other winners were The Ohio State University, Cornell University, and the University of Alberta, which received awards in various categories like Design Documentation and Special Awards. The event highlighted both technical achievement and teamwork, with special recognition for Rookie of the Year and Digital Warrior awards.
